This is The Church of my ancestors, who came here from Puerto Rico and became one of the founding families of FSUMC.

I love The People's Church because as El Barrio... it is not a place where you live but rather it's a place that lives in you

"In a world fraught with climate crises, war, and colonial legacies perpetuating division, FSUMC-The People's Church guides us to interrogate our past, respond in the present, and collectively forge a future of justice, love, and freedom. Embodying the Young Lords' 1969 vision, this is what Church means to us today."

Blessings all. Born and raised here in El Barrio, a child of God, I sought to find my spiritual family as a child. I always knew there was God. I entered the church known as Hosanna Christian Fellowship when I was sixteen. I felt God's love and presence there. My dad spoke passionately of The Young Lords, the takeover, and their love for the community and those in need. Unfortunately, I became a stray a year later. The church visited my home to pray for me and judged my living situation, my family, and then partner. I attended a vendor's event at FSUMC - the People's Church. Pastor Dolimar was on the stage singing, Poetry followed. The community was together in a place I once called home. I visited the Church again for Sunday service. I met Pastor Jonathan, who had preached in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, as a child. His preaching of Pride 🌈 Community went straight to my heart. You see, my family is also Pride and from Puerto Rico. I saw myself in his words. Pastor Dolimar sealed the deal with, "Come all as you are, the good, the parts you think no one loves -- here you're loved, God loves you." I ran home to share the news with my daughter. My grandson was baptized at FSUMC The People's Church, by my God-chosen pastors, in the presence of my brothers and sisters. FSUMC is my home. It's not just a building. It is the heart of El Barrio. I see my brothers and sisters in its leaders and service to our community. I'm proud to be a member of FSUMC - The People's Church. My home, my chosen God family. From a humble servant of God and lover of all humanity. ❣️🌈🙏

"At The People's Church, I found a sanctuary where my entire being — gay, Puerto Rican, Methodist, passionate about singing and worship — coexists without compromise, embraced by a theology of liberation that ignites my spirit with fire and justice."

"I love the way justice and liberation energize our spirituality! I am in awe at the way that this vision helps unite us. This church is for everyone who knows, in their bones, that things are not as God intended — and wants to make a difference in the here and now!"

I love The People's Church because this church doesn't discriminate against anyone and it has motivated my mom to get more active.

"Being here has been a gift to me; this place is amazing and feels like home. This church has been very important to me due to its connections with the Hispanic community. It's been a long time since I've felt worship in this way—the people's worship. I am tired of pretending and being in places where I don't belong, but here, I get it. I truly feel it and I am thankful to God for that. We have to share with others what is happening here."

For a long time, I looked for my forever home… And I found it at the Peoples Church. I feel welcome and know I can be myself. I have seen that once you come to this place, the peace is so serene you really don't want to leave.

"It's called The People's Church because it is for everyone. It's not just for a specific group or race, nor is it limited to any particular gender. It's simply for THE PEOPLE."

You can come as you are, there's no judgment, and you can be yourself. It's a Free Sprit type of environment. which is what I love."

I love this church because I feel accepted and loved by all the members. I’ve found a new home where I am able to worship as I am. Thank you for accepting me.

I found The People’s Church on my path of healing. Stopping by one day to donate, joined a Zumba class then become a church member. The feeling of community and family I’ve never felt before at any church I’ve been to. I truly believe that GOD made me walk through the doors of The People’s Church for personal Self Love & Self Care that has led to creating SelfCare SelfLove Saturday Ministry, providing awareness of Holistic Mental Health tools to the community where I was born and raised.

Hello, my name is Luna, and what I love most about the people’s church is I can come as who I am. I grew up very religious and for many years lost my way from the church. I am Queer and trans and so I had a lot of trauma growing up in the church, and recently, about two months ago, I found my way back into this space, and I’ve been shown nothing but love and acceptance and joy. I now have a new family and I look forward every Sunday to coming here and growing with my new community.

I’m Sha’Quila Kitty Roberts and I am praise and worship leader at the church and I started singing there about two years ago, and I love everything about it. Not only do I love the church and the word, I love everything about it. Jonathan saw something in me and asked me to be the worship leader at the church. I didn’t think twice about it, and how much of a blessing it was, but I should’ve! I should’ve seen how big this was. He jumped at me and I jumped at accepting it because of Christ, because where two or more are gathered… He saw the Christ in me. Dorlimar… everybody! I love you guys!
